ETON MANOR 18
THURROCK 8
This was a game to forget in more ways than one despite a magnificent start with Thurrock kicking an early penalty from Jake Barrand and a great worked try by Trent White, this put the visitors 8-0 ahead within 5 minutes of the kick off.
From then on the game became a strange affair with Manor intent on just spoiling play, the occasional big run from the centres, and living off Thurrock mistakes. The refereeās interpretation at the breakdown was very confusing and almost non-existent. Manor to be fair took advantage with two penalties and then pounced on a ball that shot out of a scrum to be pounced on by the scrum half, the conversion was good and Thurrock found themselves 13-8 down.
The game became a dog fight with neither team creating chances as there were cancelled out or the offensive team gave a way a soft penalty. It seemed the game would end at that score until injury time when a catch and drive from the home side ended with an unconverted try, took away a deserved bonus point.
That said it was a disappointing performance after the previous week but there is no doubt the team will come back stronger for this performance, when they entertain Letchworth at Oakfield on Saturday with a 3pm kick off.
