BEDDING RETURN NOT ENOUGH

CS RUGBY 46
THURROCK 20
Thurrock visits to CS Rugby in Chiswick has never been a happy ground having never won there and it proved to be the same old story although those that watched would suggest that final score very much flattered the home side. The game did not start well for the Thurrock not only conceding a soft try scored by James converted by Houston within 2 minutes they lost influential skipper Reece Durrance through injury shortly after. Trailing 7-0 Jake Barrand kicked a penalty to reduce the deficit before numerous penalties kept the visitors on the backfoot and conceded a try from a quick tap ending in Guyatt scoring in the corner. It was unconverted 12-3. The home supporters thought that CS had taken a significant step, but just two minutes later the Thurrock fly half Ben Stanley made a decisive break and duly offloaded for Thurrock to score their first try, from Ben Timson which was converted by Barrand 12-10.

But the home side dominated the remainder of the half with tries from Williams, Cleary and Davies secured there try bonus point, Houston converted the later just on the stroke of the break. For a half time score of 29-10.

Thurrock maintained early pressure led by debutant Jake Bedding who was probing around the base and were rewarded when Barrand went over to make it 29-15 against the run of play Forrester scoring 34-15.
Shortly after the restart CS were under pressure but received a penalty which they kicked to clear their lines. Two further penalties came the home side’s way and after the second the offending Thurrock player received a yellow card and ten minutes in the bin. Four minutes into the yellow card period Cleary added another try When the first scrum took place during the yellow card period, Thurrock had to restructure and the absence of complete set of front players resulted in uncontested scums and the forfeit of an extra player. With the visitors down to 13 men you would expect CS to score, but scripts are there to be torn up and disregarded and instead Thurrock scored through Freddie Russo leaving the visitors to chase a fourth and bonus point try.
Instead CS Scott scored under the posts, Houston converting making the score flattering to the home side.
