Thurrock 24
London Cornish 15
Thurrock’s first home game of 2018 provided a much needed win In very wet conditions it was the home side that started the better and a deft chip from Ben Stanley gave Jake Barrand the chance to get there first and scampered close to the post, he added the conversion to lead 7-0 Cornish came back putting the home side camped in their own 22 but galant defending meant they only conceded a penalty to still lead 7-3 Thurrock came back again strongly and this time it was Aaron Biddle on the end of some good work to score wide out, Barrand kicked a wonderful conversion to lead 14-3 However the rest of the half it was the visitors that again dominated with 2 tries one of which converted to take the lead 15-14 at the break.
Cornish continued to dominate proceedings but Thurrock defended well and with 3 kickable penalties going awry it still remained a one point game Well into the last quarter Thurrock regained the lead and it was Jake Barrand again to score wide out with a copybook chip from Stanley for him to score. The icing on the cake came from last play of the game as Thurrock turned the ball over in the Cornish 22 as the visitors tried to attack from there own line but the recycled ball was moved quickly for Barrand to score his Third try and Thurrock’s 4th to gain there bonus point victory
