Away Defeat

Another bad day at the office saw Thurrock under perform on the road yet again. Maidstone are below Thurrock but showed great spirit and the visitors inept performance and the ability to give away 20 plus penalties and 2 yellow cards would never help their cause.

Maidstone used the slope and sun with great affect and were soon 7-0 ahead from a catch and drive, and then another try to put Thurrock on the back foot to extend their lead to 12-0.

Thurrock bounced back when Ben Northfield went over and Jake Barrand added the conversion to cut the home side’s lead, but from the restart Thurrock gave away an easy penalty to give the home side 3 points. Thurrock however came quickly back into the game and Nathan Farrell beat the covering defence to score a well worked try, Barrand again converted, to make it a 1 point game.

But before the break the home side scored a further converted try for the half time score to be 22-14

A penalty for each side was the first score’s of the second half with Barrand adding to his kicking tally before Maidstone extended their lead with a try before and a penalty before Hayden Smith went over to give some hope, but a late converted try put the game to bed, and the day was further summed up when Ben Stanley was over the try line to have the ball knocked out of his hand a further possible point lost.

Thurrock are just above the danger zone and have 3 important games coming up in March
