Thurrock came from behind to record their 3rd consecutive league win in front of a healthy crowd boosted by the first VP’s lunch of the season.
On the field the day belonged to two players, debutant Dan Stone and Sam Stanley who was playing his first game for Thurrock in 10 years. Stone scored 3 tries Stanley one and kicked a further 7 points, with Joss Nunn adding Thurrock’s other try.
The game started so well for the home side playing into the wind Henry Bird made a hit in midfield he scooped up the loose ball and quickly offloaded to Stone, who had the space to print in to score and lead 5-0. The visitors belied their lowly league position and dominated the rest of the half and scored 3 unanswered tries, two of which were converted to lead 19-5 and all was going wrong for the home side.
It did not start off much better in the second half as in the opening minutes Thurrock conceded a 4th try and now trailed by 26-5 and staring defeat
But the home side regrouped and Stanley wriggled over for an unconverted try. Stone was then put in for a second time by Dylan Fearon, a recent recruit from New Zealand. Stanley with the touchline conversion. Nunn was next to go over following good work from the forwards. Stanley’s conversion made it 24-26 and he then converted a penalty to retake the lead. Thurrock were leading by the narrowest of margins when Ben Stanley put Stone in for his debut Hatrick in the corner. Thurrock took a six point lead but there was still a twist as Thurrock conceded from a catch and drive in the corner. The conversion to take the lead luckily didn't have the legs and T's saw out the game to grab another victory. The win saw Thurrock rise to 6th in the table
