2 bonus points away from Home

Thurrock suffered their second consecutive defeat on the road in what became a very frustrating afternoon with an unprecedented penalty count against the visitors. This would prove to be the difference between the two teams. A minutes silence for the passing of club stalwart Martin Fahey preceded the kick off.

The home side started the better and used their catch and drive to great effect as they scored both of their first half tries from the same play with both converted as well as penalty which bounced over after hitting the uprights. Thurrock managed to score 2 tries in reply. The first came from a wonderful break from Sam Stanley who cut through the Cornish team after switching the direction of play and sliding in next to the posts. The second was scored by Tani Loka, who went over following some great phase play by T's and he was able to crash over from a 'pick & go'. The first was converted by Stanley to see Thurrock trail 15-12 at half time.

An early home penalty stretched their lead before they added a third try through their fly half following more strong drives by their forward pack. Thurrock came back again and got another try from Henry Bird following great work by Loka, Charlie Russo & Ben Stanley. Sam Stanley quickly added a drop goal conversion. Cornish secured their bonus point after a break away try from their winger who just about evaded the try saving attempt from Dan Stone. Cornish then seemed to put the game out of reach as they converted a penalty to leave the score at 33-19 with 5 minutes to play. Thurrock showed their resilience once again and got only their 2nd try scoring bonus point of the season when Stone scored in the corner. Stanley again converted from the touchline. T's were now within losing bonus point range, but were looking to level the scores with a final drive which saw them retain the ball for over 20 phases of play. They looked odds on to score, only for Stone to be tackled in to touch inches from the try line. That was to be the last play in what was a thrilling encounter by 2 evenly matched teams.

This week Thurrock are home to Chobham. Kick off is 3pm
