Sam Stanley bags 32 points, Dan Stone grabs 4 tries and Tom Pool scores a hatrick!!

The 1st XV dedicated this match to former club stalwart Martin Fahey, who sadly lost his fight with cancer a few days before the game. It ended in a fitting tribute as Thurrock produced their best performance of the season.

Chobham started the better and took the lead in the opening minutes through a Whale try. This was converted against the breeze by Dunne and was to be their only score of the game.
It took Thurrock 10 minutes to draw level as Dan Carey was on hand to collect an offload from Tani Loka and dive over the white wash. Sam Stanley added the conversion and the home team’s nerves had settled.
Thurrock were next to score following a scintillating backs move that went through four sets of hands and following a strong run from Darryl Worster, Dan Stone was on hand to score in the corner for his 5th try in only his 4th game for T's. Stanley again converted from the touchline.
T's 3rd try was all the work of Tom Pool as he scooped up a loose ball and beat 5 would be tacklers to dot down under the posts to give Stanley the easiest of conversions and a half time lead of 21-7.

The second half started with a stutter, but once in gear Thurrock were unstoppable with some fine attacking rugby that lead to an unanswered 56 points.
Stanley was first to score as he spotted a gap in the defence 40 meters out. Using his pace, he burst through and then stepped the full back to score under the posts. Pool added his 2nd next as he stepped past his defender close to the line and touched down following a strong forward drive. Not to be outdone, Dan Stone added his 2nd of the game following an outrageous chip ahead from Jake Bedding.
Stone then completed his hatrick following some fine individual play from Dylan Fearon as he chipped ahead on half way, won the ball back and drew the defender to give Stone an easy run to the line. Pool was then on hand to score his hatrick try following a strong break from Ben Stanley.
T's 9th try of the game came from Brad Retigan who rolled back the years to out sprint the cover defence from 40 meters out. To Chobham's credit, they never gave up and enjoyed a decent spell of possession towards the end of the game and only some outstanding defence from Thurrock kept them out. T's 10th try came from a Chobham error as they knocked on in Thurrock's 22. From the resulting scrum, Thurrock's back line ran it out through Stone who was able to find Sam Stanley and he sprinted in for his 2nd try of the game.
The final try came in the last play as another back line move put Stone in for his 4th of the match. Sam Stanley was outstanding from the Tee, kicking all 11 conversions for a personal haul of 32 points. The day belonged to Thurrock and they fittingly dedicated the result to the recently passed Martin Fahey as they joined with supporters in a round of applause at the end of the match.

This week Thurrock are back on the road when they travel to Hove, with the kick off at 2pm
