Great win for Ts

It is not often in sport that a player gets 3 tries and someone else on his own side betters it, but that feat happened at Harlow on Saturday. Nathan Farrell scored 3 of his side’s 8 tries, but Thurrock full back Darryl Worster usurped him crossing the line 5 times to compound Harlow position close to the foot of the table.

The pitch became very slippery due to a heavy pre match shower, but Thurrock looked the more likely from the start as they were able to move the ball about quickly and create space for their strong running backs. The Thurrock players gained confidence as the match progressed and some good individual performances enhanced the teams display, in the line out, Thurrock won all their own ball and managed to steal half of the Harlow ball, the scrummage was solid enough, to give Thurrock a good platform to run offensive moves, and they were obviously able to execute them well, with Harlow defending well, but at the breakdown they gave away numerous penalties for killing the ball, as well as getting away with some dubious hands on the ball.

Thurrock led 20-0 at the break with Farrell scoring his hat trick and Worster the other score, although playing down a slope they had to deal with a strong cold breeze in their faces. The second half was much of the same although but Worster scored 4 times. However all of the Thurrock tries were scored in the corners and despite using 3 different kickers they were unable to land a conversion. During this period Thurrock were able to rest scrum half Andy Eaton when replaced by Ben Stanley, and Elliott Keefe and Karl Warren all got an extended run out from the bench.

Overall it was a good performance and other results went Thurrock’s way and can seal a fine 2009 if they can beat Romford this Saturday.
