3rd Place Final; Maldon RFC U16 v Thurrock RFC U16
Ts now found themselves in the 3rd Tier Final, and with a large crowd waiting for the Golden Boot Final, had a point to prove o themselves against League 2 opposition in Maldon.
Straight from the off, Ts were imposing themselves on the game, and started to go through the phases, calling plays, and then whipped the ball out the backs and Steward straightened the run up through the gap for Ts first try.
Shortly after the restart, the phases were used again, one way then the other and this time it was Cowman lingering in the back line who crashed over for a try.
Ts were playing good rugby again, and straight from the KO, it was caught cleanly, taken in, recycled, popped out the backs where Ikhifa exploited a tired Maldon backline as he dodged & weaved his way to the line for another try.
The second half saw the remainder of the squad get a run out, and despite not adding to the score, kept the intensity and momentum going and saw out the remainder of the game to win the Final
Result;
Maldon RFC U16s 0 - 19 Thurrock RFC U16s
Tries: Jordan Steward, Jack Cowman, Mark Ikhifa
Cons: Harry Edmunds x 2
An up and down day with sunny intervals, heavy rain and a lot of waiting around due to injuries and rearranging the schedule, but Ts came away with a well-deserved trophy. Jack Cowman deservedly collecting the trophy on behalf of the team – another trophy for the ‘cabinet’.
The Golden Boot Final saw Brentwood and Westcliff A contest a fierce game where Brentwood in literally the last play, kick a penalty to win it.
