Brentwood v Thurrock
Tough start to 2017
We started the match at Brentwood with only 14 players against the league 2 leaders but that didn't deflate the spirit of the lads. With a turn over ball Ed Suddell chipped a lovely weighted ball into the Brentwood corner which was chased by Ryley Jackson who managed to get a hand down on the ball as it went over the try line to get his first try on his debut. Unfortunately we were not able to convert the kick for the extra points. Brentwood, unsurprisingly, came back hard and quickly hit back with a try of their own but again this was not converted. Thurrock were then up to full strength with additional players arriving. Brentwood continued strongly attacking the T's line; with some great tackling from the boys we held Brentwood out but, with a good run in, Brentwood managed to cross the line once more which was also converted.
Half time score Brentwood 12 Thurrock 5.
The second half started of with the same intensity and physicality as the first half with both teams putting in big hits. Brentwood had Thurrock pinned into their 22 with relentless pressure which the T's held out. We eventually ended the onslaught with a break out and quickly turned from defence to a great attack holding Brentwood on their own line and crossing the line to score. However the try was disallowed for a scrum on the Brentwood 5m line and the home team were able to break out and clear their line. They were soon able to move the ball wide to create some space and Brentwood crossed the Thurrock line once more (which was also converted).
The passion and pride from the Thurrock players was clearly evident and shone through but needed to be channeled better. The fourth Brentwood try was soon to follow in similar fashion to the third with them having an overlap and scoring in the corner once more.
Final Score Brentwood 26 Thurrock 5.
Man of the match: Our new boy "Rocky" Ryley Jackson who impressed us all and also scored a try on his debut. Well done and welcome to the T's.
