Ladies win 87-7 against Novocastrians

THURROCK T-Birds have taken a first emphatic step in what they hope will be a national cup winning challenge.

After winning the Women’s Championship South, a new format to the end of season competition sees the top four teams in the North and South put into a league, with the top two playing off for the National Championship crown.

Thurrock started with an 87-7 victory against visitors Novocastrians from Newcastle upon Tyne, who finished fourth in the North Division.

T-Birds try scorers were Captain India Harvey (5 tries), Niketa Akintade (4), Sophia Durrance (2), Lizell Heather (3) and Maddy Lockwood. Heather converted five tries and Carrie Whymark one.

This Sunday (3rd March) T-Birds are home to Lichfield, 2pm kick-off. Lichfield should prove a tougher test as they finished second behind winners West Park, from Leeds.
