Thurrock Men got their 2026/27 preparations underway with a 27–19 victory over Romford & Gidea Park on Friday night.
Under the lights at Crow Lane, a large mixed senior squad got valuable minutes into the legs as Head Coach Andy Yarrow used the first outing of pre-season to give opportunities across the group.
With a number of younger players stepping up alongside more experienced senior players, Thurrock crossed for five tries through Harry Reynolds, Liam Morley (2), Shea Cotter and Dylan Aiken, with Ben Stanley adding a conversion.
The result was a positive start, but more importantly the evening provided the squad with a first opportunity to put weeks of pre-season work into a live-game environment.
Following the RFU's decision to delay the start of the community rugby season until the week commencing 21st September, the Men now have a few additional weeks to prepare before the competitive action gets underway. That extra time gives the squad further opportunities to build fitness, develop combinations and get valuable game minutes across the wider senior group.
A big thank you to Romford & Gidea Park RFC for hosting us and to everyone who made the trip to Crow Lane to support the boys.
