Chobham make T's work hard for Victory

Thurrock travelled to Chobham on Saturday and a potential banana skin was successfully thanks to 2 late tries from Charlie Russo.

The home side are already relegated from London 1 South, but with that said they played with freedom and enjoyment and made T's work hard for their bonus point win.
Thurrock made a dream start when just after 3 minutes, relentless pressure paid off and Caolan Watts-Adams went over under the posts for his first ever 1st team try. Sam Stanley added the conversion for a 7-0 lead.
The home side forced errors from Thurrock as poor execution was costing the visitor Thurrock both try scoring opportunities and needless penalties, Clarke added a penalty after 18 minutes quickly and then Devitt scored an unconverted try wide out, quickly followed by another Clarke penalty from just inside his own half. Then Chobham scored a further try from Elliott to extend the lead to 16-7.
Sam Stanley scored a fine individual try and converted himself to make the half time score 16-14 to Chobham probably a reflection of the play over the period.
Thurrock started the second half much better and a break from Dylan Fearon ended with the centre going over 10 minutes into the second half to retake the lead at 19-16. It was still a nervous last quarter and Stanley took and easy penalty to extend the lead to 22-16 but when Jake Bedding was yellow carded for a harsh high tackle Clarke made no mistake with the resultant penalty. A try from Charlie Russo converted by Stanley to make 29-19.
But the home side just would not lay down and Dunne crossed the line for the home side with 5 minutes remaining and the score at 29-24, but a minute from the end Charlie Russo with his second try, converted by Stanley sealed the victory and 5 points.
It did prove that you can take no game for granted no matter the form of the side your playing and ‘take your foot off the gas’ as one player stated.
It could happen again this week when Thurrock entertain HOVE at Oakfield kick off will 3pm and it will be well supported with the former players lunch before the game.
