Former Players treated to points fest, as Henry Bird scores a hat trick

THURROCK 80
HOVE 31
The former players lunch before the game was a sell-out and the current crop of players gave them a spectacle to watch. With over 20 ex 1st XV Captains in attendance they watched knowing that the club is in good hands moving forward.
The game was played in almost perfect conditions was a crazy affair with both offences playing some stunning running rugby, with tries coming at either end, at regular intervals. With just over 20 minutes on the clock both teams had scored 4 tries each in the process secured a try bonus point and the match was poised at 26-24,
Both coaches however would be very disappointed with their defences during this period. The game settled down in the last quarter of the half with Thurrock adding 2 more converted tries for a half time score of 40-24
Thurrock continued in the same vein in the second half as they added a further 6 tries to one from the visitors who to their credit never gave up the fight and made Thurrock work for every point.
Henry Bird led the way with a hat trick of tries followed by Joss Nunn 2 and Caolan Watts-Adams who only scored his first try last weekend followed up with another 2.
Other tries came from Sam Stanley, Dan Stone, Daryll Worster, with both Ryan Wilkins and Rob Murphy getting their first ever 1st XV tries to complete the scoring. Sam Stanley kicked 8 conversions and Henry Bird 2 to better the earlier 77point home win against Chobham earlier in the season.
This was Thurrock 6th consecutive win and had they had been able to match their current form in January I’m sure they would have been in the shout for a chance of promotion. However, with only 2 games left 5th will be the best they can do which with competitive nature of the league is a good achievement.
This week T’s travel to Cobham for the penultimate Kick Off is 3pm
