Thurrock travelled to Cobham who the previous week held on to their league status with a win at Chichester. As always in this division there are no easy games and so it proved in what was a game that could have gone the home side’s way had Thurrock not installed a much tougher mental attitude on the road.
The home score opened the scoring within the first 5 minutes with a converted try.Thurrocks response was a solitary Sam Stanley Penalty. Cobham continued to dominate and scored a further converted try and a penalty to stretch their lead to 17-3.
This spurred Thurrock into action and they started to camp inside the home side’s 22 after eliminating their mistakes and were rewarded with a Niall Clifford try, Stanley missed the conversion but an unnecessary late tackle on the try scorer with the referee awarding Thurrock a penalty at the restart. Stanleys penalty kick to the corner was as far as possible and from the Thurrock catch and drive, the backs joined in the drive and centre Henry Bird had his hands on the ball as Thurrock drove over. T's 10 points in 3 minutes, and there was still time to turn the game upside down as Dylan Fearon scored wide out deep into injury time. Stanley added the conversion for Thurrock to lead 20-17 at the break.
Thurrock looked the most likely but after a scoreless first 20 minutes of the second half but the visitors were unable to turn pressure into points. As per usual you could see the home side scored with their meaningful attack of the half scoring a converted try quickly followed by another and turned the game round to lead 29-20.
As previously mentioned injuries to Pool, Murphy and Carey meant a complete re-shuffle but Thurrock dug deep and were rewarded in the closing 5 minutes when Fearon went over in the corner and the Joss Nunn went over for what was the winning try, Stanley added a fine conversion to regain the lead at 32-29 and close out the game in what was a very nervous 4 minutes
The final game of the season is Home to Sevenoaks, the result could have a major bearing on promotion with the visitors needing a bonus point win to secure top spot. Kick Off is 3pm
