9 try blitz of Richmond

The T-birds started their league campaign with an awesome show of power and speed away at Richmond on Sunday. The game started well for the T-birds with a well worked try within 5mins of the kick-off, Sally Tuson getting on the outside after multi phase rugby to get the team off the mark. The team didn't let up and after some great management by Jodie Rettie at 10 the team were soon back on the Richmond line causing problems, after a few phases of well worked rugby Tuson again crashed over in the corner to claim for second for the day. After the re start the forwards did some great work up the field with all of them getting on the ball and running hard, Richmond started to creak and then conceded to another well worked try this time by Sarah Dyche. Richmond seemed shocked at the fast start in which the T-birds had made and with a few minutes the team were putting the Richmond attack under loads of pressure, Rebecca Edwards then charged down a kick from the Richmond 10 and dived on the ball to make it 0-20 with a few minutes until half time. The only mistake in the first half came when the T-birds switched off in defence and the Richmond 10 dotted down for their first points of the game, the whistle then went for half time and the girls lead 7-20.

At half time the team talked about keeping the pressure on Richmond and keeping up the focus, the team had listened and started with the same intensity as the first half. After some brilliant interchange from the forwards and backs the team created another top try with Tuson going over again for her third try of the game. Not to be outdone India Harvey then carved open the Richmond line as she went in for her first of the day, again good phase play from the team had created this score. With 20 minutes left the team stepped up another gear and really started to physically dominate all over the pitch, Mercedes Foy then crashed over for a well work try before Tuson then scored her forth of the day.

With 8 tries scored and some fantastic 15 ''man'' rugby being played the T-birds, the game ended 7-47 winners, the team were very happy with the start of the season and will now look forward to their first home game on Sunday (17/09/16) against Saracens. Players of the match were Rebecca Prosser and Fee Jordan, the team also had a number of new debuts who all performed well for the team.
