A scorching hot day and a sluggish start to the new season cost the u16s.
The first half saw Ongar get on the score board early and a couple of handling errors stopped Thurrock making a quick response.
A few phases followed when Thurrock were slow to the press allowing Ongar to extend their lead further with tries being scored in the corners. A valiant and energetic performance from K.Cartwright got the T's going and L.Mitchell then began to control from the midfield with some strong line breaks and some pre-planned patterns.
As the second half started, the Thurrock pack began to control the scrum which then allowed the back line to show some of the pace they had built up during the summer.T's got their reward after D.Griffin picked up an Ongar kick in the 22 and set off A.Doye who made a massive gain on the left before offloading brilliantly to A.Rawlings to run in the try.
Ongar fought back with skill and strong work at the breakdown but better pressure and quicker defence from T's paid off again when Cartwright broke the line late on and played a short flick to Mitchell who scored under the posts.
Both tries were converted with ease by S.Tallack making the final score 31 - 14 to Ongar.
