The U15’s showed on Sunday, that rugby is a simple game with convincing win over an Epping team who put an admirable performance from start to the finish.
What do I mean by a simple game?
If your forwards control the scrum and win the breakdown and contact area; this gives time and space for the backs to execute their moves, which produces the tries.
Thurrock played to their game and systems from the first whistle.
Receiving the ball from the kick off and setting up clean ball for Hibbell to pass to Wright (The fastest prop in Essex!!) breaking through the Epping defence and popping the ball to Driscoll, who ran in under the posts and converted the try.
The next try was again set up by good forward work, giving clean ball for the backs to move it swiftly down the line for McLouglin to score and Driscoll to convert.
Thurrock continued to produce a great exhibition of rugby throughout the first half with backs and forwards combining in the systems created in training. Occasionally “white line fever “would take over their play. Fortunately, it did not prevent them from scoring more tries before halftime. Tries by Gorbutt, Burgess and Tubby completed the first half scoring.
A few words from the Thurrock coaches and some extra game time for the bench did not disrupt their game.
The second half was more forward dominated in the try department with Mendes, Gorbutt, Dennett and Tubby crossing the white wash.
Man of the match could have gone to a few players today. Burgess, for his courageous tackling in defence, Dennett, Dibble & McDermott's work in the loose; but today it was awarded to Fly half and centre Driscoll.
I hope the U15’s keep improving in their team-work and rugby ethos,
Next week, will see this young Ts team face a tough home game against Westcliff
