Thurrock were meant to have a cup game at home this week, but due to Stanford not being able to fill the fixture, a friendly game against Maldon was arranged.
The game started with Maldon kicking off
and trying to put pressure on from the start. The Thurrock defence held strong with Maldon’s big forwards knocking on the door but eventually the pressure told and Maldon scored the first try of the game.
Thurrock hit back twice from the strong running of Adam Seedat who powered through and showed a quick turn of foot for a forward. Thurrock were starting to work out their opponents strengths with
some big hits in the centre of the pitch. A turnover for the ever improving Riley Mayes and a quick pass wide to Daniel Wells who used his pace to dot down. Maldon fired back with one of their strong
forward runners to reduce the deficit. Thurrock kept up their strong rucking and a quick pick and go from the back of the ruck and Riley Goodman went over for Thurrock. There was still time for one last
try from Jack Thorp before half time with some slick passing to dot over the try line.
Thurrock got the game back underway with a deep kick from Logan Silk putting Maldon straight on the back foot. A
quick turnover and Adam Seedat who made another one of his powerful runs only to get the ball out the back for Nojus Budrevicius to touch down. Tries were then exchanged with Adam Seedat with
another brace before impressive Daniel Cross stepped in for a quick fire hat-trick in between two Maldon tries. Maldon then fired back after Thurrock cleared their lines and Maldon’s big forwards got
up a head of steam and powered through to touchdown. There were some great tackles in the game especially from Henry West who put his body on the line to stop one of Maldon’s big ball carriers.
Thurrock then hit back for a first try for the club when Robert Hicks was set free on the wing and his determination drove him across for his try. With the referee calling last play Thurrock tried their best not
to let Maldon have the last word but with Thurrock running out of bodies in defence Maldon scored.
Thurrock U13 would like to thank referee Matt Goodman and our sponsors Lumic for their continued support.
