The Thurrock RFC Under 15s Team represents a group of young gentleman who have proudly played rugby together for many years. We enter the 2015-16 season as strong opponents within the Essex League and have realistic aspirations for the coming year.
We started the 2015-16 season with just enough players to field a full team and this has built to 27 players with others seeking to join.
The boys have a lot to be proud from last season: we fought hard to come second place in the Division 2 Essex League, earning the right to promotion and we then came second place in the Camber Sands Tournament at the end of the season. This was highly competitive and the boys were delighted with the result.
We form part of a club with over 100 years of history. Thurrock RFC is a not-for-profit organisation funded entirely by donation from sponsors and contribution from players. As a team we want, where possible, to function independently of any contribution from the Club’s central resources, thereby allowing the club to develop whilst ensuring that the players have access to the right equipment, kit and support. We do this by inspiring external sponsorship for the team and by raising funds through a variety of activities throughout the year.
Our key sponsors this year are Berryrange, Independent Boxing Association and Stone Paving. We are always seeking to engage new sponsors who think they can help the team financially or otherwise.
There is a real sense of pride, passion and discipline within the team and the guys play and behave with the respect and fairness that is embedded within the Rugby Code. The team is made up of players from Canvey Island in the east to Romford in the west and they represent 12 secondary schools throughout Essex with many of them featuring strongly in their own school teams. Seven of the players train with the Essex squad having been selected for the team last
year. The diversity within the team is a real strength and their exposure to a variety of playing and training adds to the skill mix and team success.
The forward and back play within the team are equally strong and there is a real connection between the two play aspects. This leads to games that are entertaining for ball play and for the physical nature of the game that appeals to fans.
Our Coaches (Mark Lynas, Ben Bailey and Rob Murphy) put the guys through their paces at training twice a week and work hard on developing a positive attitude within the team whilst improving their skills and fitness. No one gets off easy and they hold each other to account when it comes to putting in the effort and getting results!
Mark (head coach) says: ‘It is a real privilege to be involved with this group of lads. They have a passion for the sport and are increasingly becoming a key feature of the club. Their success this year is something we are all very proud of. They are going from strength to strength and support from sponsors can only help this further. We can promise that any support received will be utilised entirely to
enhance the performance and enjoyment for the players. On behalf of the entire coaching team I thank you in advance for any involvement in our future.’
